Pat Badt- Oil on Panel, Jill Odegaard - Handmade Paper and Wire Dimensions Variable - approximately 11 x 14
January 26 - May 4, 2025

Interwoven Perspectives is a collaborative exhibition of works by painter Pat Badt and sculptor/fiber artist Jill Odegaard. Through their distinct yet complementary artistic practices, the exhibition aims to explore the intersections between painting and sculpture, inviting viewers to contemplate the interconnectedness of two distinct sensibilities and materials.

The exhibition presents an open dialogue between Pat Badt’s color paintings and Jill Odegaard’s complex paper sculptures. The pairing of their work delves into the symbiotic relationship between two-dimensional surface and three-dimensional form, inviting viewers to contemplate the fluid boundaries between composition and construction both two and three-dimensionally.

Badt and Odegaard have worked as colleagues for over two decades, teaching art at Cedar Crest College, Allentown, PA. Their shared teaching philosophy and artistic motivations have, in the past, led them to create student projects that span their respective mediums, pairing book arts and printmaking (Pat) and paper making (Jill).

Both artists draw inspiration from the natural world on a micro or macro level.

Odegaard’s process involves the assemblage of parts by soldering wire that will be coated with handmade paper and by using a vacuum table to create bas reliefs. Relying on a grid structure, Jill deviates from the regularity of the grid by bringing organic elements into play as she deconstructs the rigidity of the structure.

Badt works with a matrix of string to create a grid that overlays the painting surface and creates a stratification of color histories. Pat’s work becomes the intersection between abstraction and the natural world. Through an intuitive exploration of color and specific light, Badt creates a conversation about the perception of reality.

Through their respective artistic practices, these artists delve into personal narratives and collective experiences, weaving together visual stories. In this exhibition, Pat Badt’s paintings are juxtaposed with Jill Odegaard’s sculptural installations, creating a dynamic visual dialogue that encourages viewers to explore the connections between line, form, and space. Interwoven Perspectives offers viewers a chance to explore the interconnectedness of artistic expression and to discover the dissolving boundaries between painting and sculpture, paper and pigment.
