This hybrid class can be taken virtually or in-person. If you wish to attend in-person, please register for the in-person session. If you wish to attend virtually via Zoom, please register for the online session. These sessions will take place simultaneously, the two sessions are just for us to track how many students will be coming in-person versus virtually.
Join illustrator Lena Shiffman for a fun and relaxing art class this fall. Choose your favorite medium or learn a new one such as charcoal, pencil, pastel, oils, acrylic, or watercolor. Composition, value, color, and proper use of mediums will be covered. Work from still life or photos provided by the instructor or your own photos. Individual attention will be given to each student by Lena.
Please note: This hybrid class provides students the freedom to attend their session either in-person or via Zoom. Students who choose to join virtually will need access to a computer, laptop, tablet or phone with a camera, microphone and internet access for using the Zoom meeting app.
Meet the Instructor:
Lena Shiffman attended Spectrum Institute of Commercial Art in NJ, and later studied at The Parsons School of Design and the Art Students League in New York City. She is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and member of Rutgers University council on children’s Literature (RUCCL).
Her first book was Keeping a Christmas Secret written by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, which received a Christopher award in 1989. Since then she has created many drawings for Cricket Magazine and illustrated numerous books for Scholastic Inc., including Dancing with Manatees, which has sold more than half a million copies in countries all over the world.
