Steamroller Group Collective: Uncharted Territories

STEAMROLLER GROUP, in collaboration with the HUNTERDON ART MUSEUM and RIVER UNION STAGE, invites a living dialogue among poets, printmakers, and book artists in service of creating artwork that speaks to the relevant issues of our time.

Uncharted Territories, the first in a proposed series, will incorporate imagery created by artists responding to the written word, using a variety of traditional printmaking techniques. Broadsides will be handbound into a limited-edition artist book and exhibited in a group exhibition at the Hunterdon Art Museum in Clinton, NJ.

Steamroller Group, currently led by local artists Val Sivilli, Susan Mania, Kazaan Viveiros, Bonnie Berkowitz, and Cay Maria Adams, has collaborated with Vasiliki Katsarou to curate a collection of 20 poems that explore ideas of navigation, being lost, being found.

The book design has been created by Val in collaboration with Ulla Warchol. Overall, the project involves 40 participating poets and artists.

Val Sivilli, Steamroller: “Artist to Artist collaboration is at the heart of this project. We are excited to work together to achieve something truly remarkable as a variety of experts engaging through their chosen art form, each of us lending a unique voice to the process.”

Laura Swanson, River Union Stage: “This marks another creative milestone for our organization and the wider community. Two decades in, we remain dedicated to making a lasting cultural difference, and this initiative embodies our values of community, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Welcome, Steamroller!”

This exhibition will be on view beginning July 11, 2026.
