Are you interested in diving deeper into the meaning behind your artwork? In this workshop, you will discover your visual language and voice while also learning skills like how to cut an intricate image and form a strong composition. Students will create a mixed media artwork utilizing collage and mark-making. Participants will utilize a vintage issue of National Geographic magazine and will create painted paper for their work. Students will be encouraged to choose a cause they feel strongly about or explore a personal narrative as a theme for their work. Participants of all skill levels are welcome. Materials will be provided. Students will leave this one-day workshop with the magazine they selected as well as prompts to continue creating at home.
Meet the Instructor
Kailey Atkinson is an interdisciplinary artist and educator from Easton, PA. Through collage, photography, social practice, and other mediums, she creates visual narratives, connects with community, and explores societal issues. Kailey finds that being an artist and teaching go hand in hand, embracing how these separate worlds inspire each other. She is currently pursuing her MFA at Clark University and teaching at Commonwealth Charter Academy. Kailey earned her Art Teacher Certification at Moravian University and a BA in Studio Art with a Minor in Art History at Cedar Crest College. Her work has been exhibited at various local institutions.
